Goplan 2 roadmap / What we're working on
Although we are advocates of continuous improvement, we've decided to build a completely new version of Goplan. This page outlines both what has been done already, as well as what's coming soon on the product. We're big fans of feedback, so if you have any (both on our current offering as well as this roadmap), please do contact us.
1) Overall product vision updates Last update: September 2nd 08
Goplan 2 is on the way. It will be leaner, faster, and friendlier. We're removing the cruft and some of the things people don't use, and we're adding new features (and tweaking the current ones) to make them much better.
We're also aiming to make Goplan better suited to teams like ourselves. We are big advocates of simplicity and great experiences, so we're aiming for features and improvements that just work for people who love these things as well.
2) Filtering and browsing Last update: September 2nd 08
One of the problems with Goplan today is that if you're working on a project for a long time, you'll accumulate all sorts of files, notes, and tasks. They're not connected to each other in any way, though, even if they're related in your context. The new Goplan will allow you to tag virtually any kind of content so you can find it easily through filtering.
You'll have to pretend those lines are straight ;-)
Once we have some screenshots and videos of this new functionality it'll be easier to get what we mean, but here's a couple of examples: you can automatically get all items related to "homescreen design" by selecting the related tag on any screen; You'll be able to attach multiple files to a note, ticket or task just by tagging that file with "note:80" or "ticket:23".
3) User experience updates Last update: September 2nd 08
As we said on the vision updates, we're making drastic changes to the way Goplan behaves. We are building a more responsive application - one in which you don't have to do extra page loads to do simple tasks like create or edit a calendar event. Many of the things that now take a page load will be changed to use Ajax.
We're planning on making extensive updates to our calendar, ticket and task functionality. As soon as there's anything significant to show here, we'll update this section of the roadmap with screenshots and videos of how the new system behaves.
4) Removing some of the cruft Last update: September 2nd 08
This is a tricky one. Removing things from a product is always a tricky decision - we're bound to make at least some people unhappy. However, we're confident that this is going to be a change for the best. Our real-time chat and project blog will be removed. The first will likely be moved to a separate product in the future (that will likely integrate with Goplan externally - we'll keep you updated), whereas the latter will be changed to something we believe is better functionality and a better experience.
Our hope is that by removing two of the features people don't use often - and in one case convert them into a separate product - will allow us to focus more of our time on the features people do use and care about, like providing an excellent task management and issue tracking system. Plus, they relieve our servers from the pressure of running a real-time chat app that people weren't using, in return making the whole app feel snappier for everyone.
5) Feature level updates Last update: September 2nd 08
Company centric: We're making the new Goplan company-centric. Now, that doesn't mean that as an individual you won't be able to use it - it'll work just fine. But we will be adding a few things that will be particularly useful for companies. Things like customization of color scheme and logo, a company-wide dashboard and contact manager are on the way.
Better notes: We already mentioned our new tagging system that'll allow you to filter and find notes more effectively. But we're making a few changes that will make it easier to be notified of when a note needs your attention (which is good for those times when you need team - or client - input on something).
Improved calendar: The calendar will feature a few experience updates, like being able to jump easily back and forth in time, a better way to add new events, and (finally) a better way to edit events - which was a mess before. We're hoping to have screenshots or a video of it really soon.
... and more! There's a few things we're working on that we're not ready to completely unveil for now, but keep an eye on this roadmap (we'll do a blog post as well) and there will be news soon.
