A second peek, and a few updates

Fred Oliveira on October 13, 2008, Comments (16)

One week has passed since our first peek at how we’re implementing Company Spaces on Goplan 2, so we might as well give you more updates on how things are progressing. Many of you have been emailing to ask about our expected release date for the new version - we have good news for you guys. We’re rolling out the beta phase for Goplan 2 during November and we’re hoping to launch shortly after that (our plan is for the final release in early January). Scroll down for more info on the beta and progress.

Last week one of our users, Jared, posted a spot on comparison between Goplan (as it is today) and Basecamp on Getsatisfaction. I took that opportunity to go into a little bit more detail about some of the things he pointed out that are different between the two products and what’s changing on Goplan 2. You should definitely go have a look if you want a bit more detail on what’s coming.

Do keep in mind, however, that while there are things about the upcoming release that will get us closer to competitor products, we’re also working on things that are drastically different, so picking a solution for project management will still be a matter of getting the right fit. We want to be sure we’re the best fit for you all, though.

Getting into the Goplan 2 beta

We’ll be inviting a few of our users to join the Goplan 2 beta during November. We’re then going to slowly expand the number of users on the beta to be sure everything works right and scales right. We’ll have more details on how the beta will work when we get a bit closer, but if you want to be involved, feel free to drop us an email and ask - we’ll get you on the list.

Comments:

Great to read some concrete and positive news.
I can’t wait to get my hands on this release.

Greetings

As a GP customer, I demand more updates!!!

Only because I’m really interested! BOOYAH!

“We’re rolling out the beta phase for Goplan 2 during November”

more lies

Just because you don’t have access to it, JimD, doesn’t mean you can just spout random theories. And just because you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, it doesn’t mean we have to take your insults.

But has it been rolled out? Been a month without updates now ;) I’m very excited to see, try and test what you’ve created - I guess we all are.

I’m with Oskar, very eager to see GP2. Whether that’s in beta form or otherwise.

Update please?

I’m excited about GoPlan 2. We’re looking at project management apps, and if GoPlan has email-to-ticket functionality, time-tracking and maybe tied into an invoicing system like SimpleInvoices.com it would be spot on.

@Fred - while I can understand why you’re upset at the tone of Jim’s comment, you also must realise that a lot of us are really frustrated. Very little communication and virtually nothing in the way of real concrete updates. Every “deadline” you’ve set has been missed after all

Remember, the reason we’re so frustrated and why sometimes those frustrations get vented is because we want to be loyal customers because we like the product. We just want to see GP2 because there are real issues with the GP we’re all using. Don’t forget - we are paying customers. If it was free, then we wouldn’t have any real right be be annoyed.

You are absolutely right, Chris. I totally get the frustration you are feeling. Trust me, we feel it too when we let a deadline slip. We’re working really hard to get more people into the beta by November, but we also don’t want to show everyone a half-assed product. So quite often the reason why we stay quiet for a while is because we want to come back not with a whimper, but with a bang.

We are working really hard to make you guys happy. After all, if it wasn’t for you guys, we wouldn’t be here, working on this product. Thanks for the kind-worded post. I appreciate it.

I had written a long(ish) comment, bemoaning, once again the lack of updates, but lost it. Now I just can’t bothered to write anything about goplan. I’ve reached totally apathy on goplan2. I hope it comes out, but I just don’t care anymore

Hi guys,
what’s happening? Last time we heard from you was about 3 months ago. There haven’t been any updates to the roadmap or any blog posts regarding GoPlan 2… nothing. Come on, how long do you really think people are going to remain interested?

Cheers,
Matt

P.S. “our plan is for the final release in early January” - is this time frame still relevant?

I have been subscribing to GoPlan for a year, solely for the purpose of “reserving” my company’s pseudo-domain on GoPlan. Although GoPlan “1″ in it’s non-company centric format was not really useable for our purposes, I otherwise liked everything else about GP, and was willing to get in early for GoPlan 2.

Now, after a year of inaction/missed deadlines (and $120 of wasted cash), I unsubscribed a few minutes ago. Since Jan 1st, been demo’ing OnStage and will likely stick with that.

Regards,
Dave

Any news about v2?

In the time that I started inquiring about GoPlan2, I have started a company and watched it go through several motions and then fail. We had successes and we had losses, but we got a lot accomplished since our start so long ago. We never signed up for GoPlan, because we were awaiting our requirements to be met by version 2. Which never came and has yet to see the light of day. Look, I understand that things take time. But a pursuit of perfection leads to what we have today: unmet promises. And unmet promises are no better than a failed company. I am not sure what has taken you so long, as your original deadlines are a year past. I am a lost cause … but you need to explain yourself to the other hopefuls (and customers) that are still holding out hope.

Dave: The issue is not really about V2 not coming but related to the non-existant communication since month..

Really - October since the last real blog update. Are you kidding here. Surely you have something you can show, something you can say about your product
